start small

If you’re overwhelmed at the thought of downsizing, think about dividing your home into categories. Instead of thinking of the whole house or a massive room, you’ll just be thinking of winter coats, or sauce pans. . .any category, you name it!

Take pens for example. I’ll bet that every room in your house has a collection of pens. Some are working, some are not. Grab a rectangular tote (dollar store has a variety of these) and go around your home collecting all the pens/pencils.

Now take an honest stock in your inventory. You can instantly throw away the ones that don’t work. Then with the ones that remain, ask yourself these questions: Do I love this pen? Does this pen feel good to write with? The small percentage of pens that make the cut go back to where you will most often reach for a writing utensil. And you’ll now have a much better handle on what pens you have and where you keep them.

If you are planning a move into a retirement community or are downsizing to a smaller space and need a nudge, call RR Move Co. to come out for a home visit and provide a bit of direction to get you started in your home editing journey.
